RedCon1 is one of the biggest name in sports nutrition. These guys produce some of the most popular bodybuilding supplements in the world. Fade Out is their sports-specific sleep aid. According to RedCon1, Fade Out is the best natural sleep aid on the market today for young athletes and bodybuilders. Why? What does it claim to do exactly?
According to the official website, RedCon1 Fade Out does the following:
- Optimizes sleep to maximize deep, restorative sleep
- Growth hormone support
- Maximize muscle recovery
Clearly this is a stack meant to optimize sleep and promote muscle recovery. It is during sleep that your muscles grow; they don’t actually get bigger in the gym or while you eat as so many people believe.
Growth hormone peaks at about 2am. This anabolic hormone maximizes tissue repair and accelerates fat loss. If you want to get leaner, stronger, or be a more effective athlete, then making sure you are sound asleep at the right times each night can make a big difference.
RedCon1 Fade Out sounds like an interesting sleep aid. The question is, does it really do all of this?

Here is a quick breakdown of the ingredients in RedCon1 Fade Out. In each case, we’ll explain what the substance does, whether or not it actually improves sleep, and what we make of the dosage. We’ll then give you a full breakdown of our thoughts on the formula as a whole.
GABA – 3g
GABA is a neurotransmitter; it is actually the main inhibitory neurotransmitter in the human CNS. Acting on GABA receptors decreases stress, lowers anxiety, boosts confidence, and relaxes the body. It shouldn’t come as a big surprise that alcohol acts – in part – on GABA receptors!
Many people believe that supplementing with GABA is an effective way to reduce anxiety and promote a calm, relaxed body and mind. However, this is incorrect. GABA is not readily absorbed in the gut. When it is, it is mostly taken up and used by the enteric nervous system. If any reaches the head, it struggles to cross the blood-brain barrier. The GABA in your brain is synthesized there, and it is meant to stay there! As such, supplementing with GABA is kind of pointless.
Mucuna Pruriens – 1g
Mucuna pruriens is often taken for its supposed testosterone-boosting properties. There is some good evidence to suggest that taking mucuna pruriens might actually increase free serum testosterone levels by a significant amount. Increasing testosterone levels would definitely improve the quality of your sleep.
We aren’t certain that manipulating testosterone is the most efficient way to enhance sleeping patterns. However, this is a sports specific sleep aid. Night time muscle growth is a priority. With that in mind, the 1g of Mucuna Pruriens we get from RedCon1 Fade Out is definitely a positive.
L-Arginine Hydrochloride – 1g
Arginine is an essential amino acid. It is absolutely vital for a number of bodily functions, first and foremost for protein synthesis. It has obviously been included in Fade Out for this reason; low arginine levels will definitely reduce the rate of protein synthesis going on at night while you sleep, which will hinder recovery and growth. Supplementing with arginine is definitely a good idea if you want to optimize recovery. Not a sleep aid, but it works hand-in-hand with sleep enhancers to boost muscle growth.
L-Phenylalanine – 750mg
We have absolutely no idea why you would actively want to add this to a supplement – any supplement. Phenylalanine’s role in the body is not understood at all. As it stands, it doesn’t actually seem to do anything of any importance. You certainly don’t need to consume phenylalanine; some people are acutely allergic to phenylalanine, so it can’t be that important! Supplementing with phenylalanine has no effect on sleep whatsoever.
Valerian Root Extract – 600mg
Valerian root is a very commonplace sleep aid ingredient. It is found in the majority of sleep supplements on the market today. However, it isn’t so prevalent because it is useful. It isn’t. There is no hard, clinical evidence proving that valerian root supplementation leads to better sleep quality, length, or timing in humans.
Every study looking ta valerian root as a sleep aid has used it alongside other known sleep enhancers. Until we see a standalone trial looking at valerian root alone, we’re going to just assume that it doesn’t work. You should too.
L-Ornithine Hydrochloride – 500mg
Ornithine is an amino acid. It is non-proteinogenic, which means that it is not used to synthesize proteins. It therefore has no effect on muscle growth. Instead, ornithine’s main role is in regulating the urea cycle. Specifically, ornithine helps to get rid of excess nitrogen through urine. We aren’t sure why RedCon1 felt this was a necessary addition to Fade Out. This stuff doesn’t have much of an effect on sleep, recovery, health, performance, anything. We think it might be here to jazz up the label!
L-Theanine – 500mg
Theanine is another amino acid. However, this one has some real sleep enhancing power. Theanine induces relaxation – both mental and physical. It is not a sedative; rather, it gently reduces anxiety, soothes muscle pain, and counters the effects of caffeine.
It is naturally found in very large quantities in black tea, so we don’t normally recommend taking it as a supplement (unless as part of a caffeine stack). However, studies have shown that theanine supplementation shortly before bed greatly improves several different aspects of sleep. It definitely has a place in any comprehensive sleep stack.
Chamomile Extract – 350mg
Chamomile is the quintessential relaxing tea; it is drunk around the world for its anxiety-reducing, calming effects. Despite so much anecdotal evidence pointing to this being a sleep aid, we aren’t convinced. There is simply no peer-reviewed, clinical evidence supporting the claim that chamomile acts as a sleep aid. It may well be a relaxing, caffeine-free drink, but consuming a chamomile extract does not seem to have any meaningful effect on sleeping patterns.
Hops Extract – 300mg
We aren’t told exactly what the hops extract is here. This is really important; hops contain lots of different substances, and we have no idea what RedCon1 has tried to concentrate. It could be anything; water, fiber, phytoestrogens, and so on.
That said, hops do seem to be an effective natural sedative and sleep enhancer. Hops have been found to exert a very mild but very real sedating effect on humans. Consuming hops relaxes the muscles, reduces pain, and makes many people feel sleepy. There isn’t a great deal of clinical data on this, so we can’t say whether RedCon1 Fade Out contains more than enough hops or far too little to have an affect.
Melatonin – 5mg
It is great to see that Red Con 1 played it nice and safe and included melatonin in Fade Out. Every sleep aid needs to have a source of melatonin. Most stacks use synthetic melatonin, which is what RedCon1 seem to have opted for here.
Consuming 5mg of melatonin each night can have a profound impact on your sleeping patterns. Melatonin governs your sleep cycle. Taking extra melatonin shortly before bed will bring sleep on faster, help you remain in states of deep, restful sleep for longer, and leave you feeling far more refreshed when you wake up.
Our thoughts on the RedCon1 Fade Out formula
This is a bit of a confusing formula in all honesty. There are some extremely powerful sleep enhancers in here. But there’s also a lot of complete duds. RedCon1 have added some strange ingredients to Fade Out – ingredients which do not seem to add anything to the final results.
Take Ornithine for example. We have no idea why anybody would think this was an appropriate ingredient for a sleep aid. It helps with nitrogen expulsion; that’s it.
Then there are the unproven herbal extracts – valerian root has not been tested by itself in clinical, controlled conditions. So to us, it is completely unproven as a sleep enhancer.
The same goes for chamomile – until we are shown some pretty robust empirical data proving otherwise, we’re going to recommend you use this as a caffeine-free drink and not as a premium sleep supplement.
RedCon1 Fade Out does contain a large dose of melatonin, a decent serving of theanine, and a nice big serving of Mucuna Pruriens. Together, these ingredients will relax the body, reduce anxiety, promote healthy hormone levels, and help keep you in a nice, deep, restorative stage of sleep for far longer each night.
But the rest of the formula could be gotten rid of and RedCon1 Fade Out would be a better supplement as a result. It would certainly be cheaper!
In our opinion, there is too much waste in RedCon1 Fade out to be worth buying. If the manufacturer ditched all the useless, unproven, substandard ingredients then they could halve the price tag.
As it stands, RedCon1 Fade Out is pretty much driven by three ingredients. Even these don’t blow us away. There are definitely better supplement out there for improving sleeping patterns, even if your main goal is enhancing muscle growth.
Side Effects: Is Fade Out safe to use long term?
It seems that RedCon1 updated the Fade Out formula at some point, dropping Phenibut for extra GABA. While this dramatically reduced the power of the supplement, it also dramatically reduced the side effect risks users were being exposed to.
This was definitely a good move in our opinion!
As it stands, RedCon1 Fade out looks like a very safe supplement.
We think it is highly unlikely that you will experience any side effects whatsoever while using Red Con 1 Fade out. The substances used here are common supplement ingredients; they’re used in hundreds of other products for various reasons. They’ve all been thoroughly tested in numerous clinical trials, and they’ve all been deemed safe for regular human consumption.
If you do experience any side effects whatsoever while using RedCon1 Fade Out, stop using it immediately, seek medical attention, and contact the manufacturer.
In conclusion – Is RedCon1 Fade Out a good sleep aid?
In our opinion, there are several major flaws with the RedCon1 Fade Out formula.
Several of the ingredients are yet to be proven to work in controlled, clinical conditions.
GABA – even at 3g – does not efficiently increase activity at GABA receptors when taken orally. It doesn’t reach the brain like many assume it will.
There’s no major anxiolytic in Fade Out either; no Ashwagandha, no Rhodiola rosea, and no Tryptophan (for the 5-HTP conversion).
We do get plenty of Mucuna Pruriens for hormone support. This will go some way to improving mood and sleep quality. We also get plenty of melatonin. But these two ingredients don’t really make for a great sleep aid by themselves.
Will some people see results from RedCon1 Fade Out? Absolutely.
Would they see better results using a different stack? Yes, 100%.
