What keeps stomach acids from destroying prebiotics and probiotics?
The acids in your stomach don’t break down fiber; water soluble fiber passes through your system largely untouched (bacteria feed on it in the long intestine but the bulk of the material passes through). Things like hydrochloric acid don’t destroy intestinal bacteria either. There isn’t anything “stopping” stomach acid breaking these things down. There is simply nothing in your stomach acid which break these things down to any meaningful degree. The stomach primarily breaks down protein.
